Technical Requirements
for the xCHANGE Simulation

xCHANGE may run via a web browser or locally via a downloadable player, depending on the version.

If running xCHANGE via a web browser, we recommend the most recent version of Edge or Chrome browsers; please clear the browser cache and reboot the device prior to running the simulation.

Technical Requirements

Before running the xCHANGE Simulation, ensure that your computer meets the following technical requirements and that you test the technical environment per the instructions here:

  • A recent PC running Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10 or a recent MAC running OS X 10.5 or later

  • A laptop or desktop is acceptable

  • Display with resolution setting of at least 1280 x 768

  • Sufficient RAM/memory per browser requirements (at least 8GB memory recommended)

  • Sound card & speakers (internal or external) or headphones

  • Mouse (since the simulation is a 'mouse-only' application)

  • A stable Internet connection via Ethernet or WiFi

Additionally, each computer should be rebooted just prior to running the simulation to ensure there are no other applications or internal processes consuming required memory.

Team-specific Recommendations

If you are working in teams, we recommend teams of 3-4 participants, noting these additional technical requirements:

In-classroom team format

  • Display

    • Resolution setting of at least 1280 x 768

      • As physically large as possible (to be easily viewed by 3-4 participants at the same time)

      • For a desktop, at least 19 inches diagonal screen size

      • For a laptop, at least 15 inches diagonal screen size

  • Sound card & speakers (internal or external)

Online team format

  • If assigning virtual teams, one participant per team will be selected as the lead to drive the simulation and share his/her screen via a collaboration platform of choice (e.g., Adobe Connect, Skype, Webex, Zoom, etc.)

  • Note: Certain collaboration platforms provide remote control functionality which enables team participants to take turns driving the simulation
